Auction and Private Purchases

Berkey Bloodstock was the 10th-leading buyer at the 2006 Keeneland November sale, purchasing nine broodmares for $2,109,000, including Major Wager, dam of 2008 multiple graded stakes winner J Be K (see below)..

Berkey Bloodstock purchased HEALTHY ADDICTION (a G1 winner of $1,032,837) as a yearling at the Keeneland September Yearling sale for $100,000 as well as MISS HOUDINI (G1 winner of $870,600) and VIVID ANGEL* (G1 winner of $314,596).

Berkey Bloodstock has purchased 56 mares that have subsequently become stakes producers, including the dam of the outstanding sprinter J BE K ($337,200), winner in 2008 of the Woody Stephens Stakes (Grade 2) at Belmont Park and the Bay Shore Stakes (Grade 3) at Aqueduct. Other purchases included the dams of:

   SYMBOLI KRIS S. (Japanese Horse of the Year,  $8,272,790)
   TASTE OF PARADISE (G1 winner of $1,019,455 now at stud in Kentucky)
   SNOW RIDGE (G1 winner of $711,989)

Breeding recommendations

Utilizing a combination of pedigree analysis, nicking, conformation, intended purpose, budget and common sense, I have planned the breedings for 85 stakes horses, including:

   TASTE OF PARADISE (G1 winner of $1,019,455)
   SNOW RIDGE (G1 winner of $711,989)
   SALTY YOU (G1 winner of $331,743)
   CAFE OLYMPUS (G1 winner in Japan)

       and 14 additional Graded stakes horses.

   MUIR BEACH, LADY GRACE, HOTTAMOLLY and Squallacious (G1-placed).
 

Stallion seasons and shares

Each year I purchase or sell many stallion seasons for my clients in all price ranges in both California and Kentucky. Breeders should check with a knowledgeable agent regarding current market conditions to ensure they pay fair prices for their seasons.

Appraisals

Equine values are very subjective, with auction sales providing the only true measure of current market value. But there are times when you need to know what your horse is worth without selling it at auction.
